JUNE 4-25, 2012

The University Summer Performance Series is a sequence of music concerts produced annually, beginning in June of each year. This production runs in association with the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music and features musical performances from the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival. This year, the festival kicks off on June 4th with an all-star Jazz orchestra project, comprised of some of the finest musicians in the state of Texas.   The program will feature what’s hot in the American native musical idiom and will be led by director/trumpeter Noe Marmolejo.  On June 11th, faculty artists will guide you on a musical tour ending in Germany, with Johannes Brahms’ Piano Quartet in A Major.  Our “Made in America” concert on June 18th will include Copland’s Sonata for Violin and will highlight our American musical heritage. We will wrap things up on June 26th when the season closes with a concert that explores the many colors of instrumental writing. Special features include Beethoven’s Septet for Strings and the Webster Trio in Libby Larsen’s Barn Dances. This event is co-sponsored by the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley and a grant from the City of College Station & the Joe S. and Florence S. Hamm Charitable Trust.
